I have been married to Fred J. Angeney, my high school sweetheart, for 40 years.
We met in our sophomore year; I was 15 ½. It seems like Fred and I have been together all of our lives. We have 4 children, including 1 adopted daughter and have fostered 6 others. Our lives have been so very full. Fred is not only my husband; he is also my best friend and the person that I bounce things off of. He grounds me in so many ways. He gives me fresh perspective and is the person that critiques my work. At times I’m not sure if I like that, but it is good for me. Close friends can sometimes speak into our lives when we cannot receive the truth we need to hear from others. Fred is an artist in his own right, creating beautiful sculptures, fixtures and other architectural design elements with wrought iron.
In 1970, after the birth of our eldest daughter, I had a real desire to paint and draw. I asked him if I could purchase the supplies to get started (despite our meager income, and not knowing how I would fit it in to an already full life). So, with canvas, brushes, and oils in hand, I told my husband that when he came home from work, I would have a painting finished.
Between diapering, feedings, baths and cuddle time for two little ones, I accomplished what I set out to do. My first endeavor was a still-life: a fruit bowl and candlesticks. I was so excited that I could actually paint; it even looked like my model! Fred came home from work and was delighted and said, “How did you know that you could do that?”
I took art in high school but the subjects were more about crafts than fine art, and I didn’t even enjoy the classes at all. Though, after my first attempts, I decided to take my education a little farther. Fred and I both attended art classes at Phoenix College for several years. We received some basic training, a lot of Art History and some home decorating. I still consider my self… self-taught and somewhat of a ‘trial and error’ artist (taught by experience and persevering through the different stages and challenges).
My work consists of a wide range of subjects such as: floral, portraits, wildlife, landscapes and prophetic art. The mediums consist of pencil /colored pencil, oils, watercolor, and acrylic. Sometimes, I will mix mediums. I am passionate about whatever piece I am currently working on. The pieces that move me the most are the prophetic paintings. The Lord speaks something to my heart and with Him and I working together, the revelation grows. I would never want to do my work without Him and I give Him the Glory for the gifts He has given me.
A friend of mine said this as if she was speaking out of my own heart.
“Colour, like faith…. placed outside of the boundaries of our own lines & limitations, offers us the ability to illuminate new possibilities; to expand the rainbow of life; and reflect like a prism the vast uncontainable creativity of our Creator.”
